WHAT CAN I DO WITH VELLUM ?
Vellum Quotes
1. Printed vellum makes a wonderful overlay on tags cut from patterned or plain cardstock. Attach the two layers together with an eyelet.
2. Cut out a definition or quote and use as a title. Attach directly to the background paper or layer over a title block cut from co-ordinating cardstock.
3. Cut individual words or word strips from the vellum and use across the corners of photographs to hold them in position. Attach with eyelets or sew into position.
4. Frame individual words in slide mounts or cardstock frames. Alternatively, use the words to decorate the frames themselves.
5. Highlight the area around the words by blending chalk into the back of the vellum. Alternatively, colour in on the reverse with acid free markers.
Patterned Vellum
1. Cut strips from the vellum and use across the corners of photographs to hold them in position. Attach with eyelets or sew into position. Alternatively, cut triangles to make a more formal style of photo corner.
2. Cut individual letters from patterned vellum to spell out your title (large letters look best, such as the 3” Nifty alphabet by Deja Views). Ink the edges and leave to dry before attaching to the layout with small pieces of vellum tape, overlapping each letter to provide additional depth.
3. Patterned vellum makes an excellent photo mat. Try tearing and inking the edges and then attach the photograph on top. Attach to the layout with your usual adhesive (we use double sided tape), hiding it in the area covered by the photograph.
Plain Vellum
1. Make little vellum envelopes for journaling or storing keepsakes
2. Punch vellum flowers using paper punches or a die cutting system and attach through the centres with flower shaped brads or co-ordinating mini brads. Why not layer several flowers together, first inking the edge of the petals to add depth.
3. If you do not want to obscure the paper behind a photograph, print it onto clear vellum, the design behind will leave a subtle pattern showing through.
4. Print quotes and journaling on to vellum. For small amounts of printing, first print on to A4 scrap paper and then cut a small piece of vellum slightly larger. Attach over the printing (micropore medical tape works effectively as a low tack tape!) and then run the paper back through the printer.
5. If a photograph is too bright for the papers you want to use ‘ghost’ it with vellum. Attach plain vellum over the top of the photograph for a subtle effect – either leave as is or create an aperture over the central image.
6. Use templates, such as Diamond Folds or Lattice Folds by Hot Off The Press, to create intricate patterned strips to embellish your projects. Attach to the background with mini brads or sew into position.
