WHAT CAN I DO WITH RIBBON ?
1. Perhaps the most obvious application is to tie ribbon into bows! Tie simple bows in thinner ribbons and, for wider ribbons, just tie a knot in the centre and cut the ends at an angle for an effective faux bow.
2. Cut short lengths and staple to the edge of a frame or tag. Vary the amounts used on different projects – Either attach multiple pieces of one or more designs/colours along the entire length or place just three (odd numbers are aesthetically pleasing) grouped together at the top or bottom.
3. Why not wrap the corners of a photograph with ribbon for a pretty textured effect. Attach double sided tape to the back and wind, alternating between opposite corners and making sure that it sticks to the tape at the back to hold in position. Instead, take two lengths and place in a shallow cross over the bottom or one side of the picture.
4. Thin chiffon ribbons are perfect for embroidering simple flowers and stitching. First, make holes in the background sheet with a paper piercer or a large needle and then thread the ribbon through. Why not stitch a title in the same way.
5. Don’t forget the obvious applications - use to string tags and embellishments, either with single or multiple strands. Cascade clusters of charms or beads from several lengths of the same or toning ribbons. Leave to move freely or attach with an occasional stitch or glue dots placed where they will be hidden.
6. Make photo corners by threading the ends or narrow ribbons through from the back of the layout and tying over the top of the picture in a knot or bow (3mm chiffon ribbons in pale colours are very subtle for vintage and heritage layouts.
7. Use wider ribbons to make triangular photo corners. Simply place at an angle over each corner and wrap the ends over to the back of the picture, securing with double sided tape.
8. Take a length of ribbon several inches wide and attach close to one edge of the layout with double sided tape to add texture. Sew on buttons, charms or beads to create a pretty border.
